MENTAL HEALTH

MENTAL HEALTH

Unstable mental health can happen to seemingly "normal" people when major life events happen, or can be seen from a young age.

Mental health used to be a taboo subject, but now mental health is a word recognized as vital. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. Most people have dealt with will deal with or are dealing with some form of mental health illness. The most common illness are depression, anxiety, PTSD, Bi-polar, Eating Disorders, Addictions, Autism, Phobias, Panic Attacks, Stress, OCD, Schizophrenia, and Dementia.

Modifiable factors for mental health disorders include:

  • socioeconomic conditions, such whether work is available in the local area
  • occupation
  • a person’s level of social involvement
  • education
  • housing quality

Mental health is a broad umbrella and this blog will not even scratch the surface. It is an absolutely captivating subject because it is multifaceted and has different symptoms in every person.

Part of being an ATWG is knowing when it time to self-help and when it is time for professional help.

Self-Help

But what do you do when that's not working?

It's now time to call in the professionals with no shame because damn it, life can be really shitty at times. After I had my son, I went through it. I mean THROUGH IT you hear me. I knew I was into deep and needed external help to sort through my issues and emotions. So I called on the big boys and begin working and talking with a licensed professional. I literally cried our entire first meeting, but that was how much I was holding inside. That shit is not healthy.

Professional Help:

1. Counseling with a Licensed Professional Counselor

2.Psychiatrist

3.Psychologist

4.Life Coach

5.Mentor

6.Pastor

If you made it this far, just know you are loved and have so much to grateful for, even on your lowest days.
